i have this lil thing in my basement. sounds like the pipes settling as you can kinda hear them thud for a split second a few times a day. no one is using any plumbing and nothing is being used and they STILL make the "boom boom" noise. got any ideas, peeps?

Do you have hot water or steam heat? if so it is air in your pipes. Hot water heat circulates the water continually so you can have the noise at any time.
