I heard the new energy saving bulbs get too hot to use in an enclosed light fixture (say the kitchen) and u should only use these in an airy open fixture. Is this true?

It seems to me that if a bulb uses less energy, then LESS heat would be generated. Heat has to come from somewhere, after all.
I used fluorescent bulbs for fixtures under which I grow African violets, and while they don't stay "cool," they're definitely no warmer than an incandscent bulb giving out the same amount of light. However, if there's any sort of caution that on the packaging, that of course, is your best guide. |

Nope...not true. I switched all of my old bulbs to the new energy efficient ones including my enclosed kitchen (ceiling) light fixtures.
I'm glad to hear that you are thinking of switching! Now if we could only get everyone to at least start there... |

Yes, as long as the energy saver fit inside the light cover. The florescent bulbs do not get hot. The biggest problem with these bulb is they are too big. So, if u want to use the energy efficient bulbs, get the type (smaller size ones).

I have been using the energy efficient bulbs in the enclosed fixtures, and they work fine. One of them is in an enclosed fixture over the kitchen sink. The bulbs are much cooler than the incandescent bulbs. Thus, the kitchen does not get as hot.

This is a total fabrication, compact fluorescent burn alot cooler then regular lamps, thus the energy savings while using them. Tou can use them in place of any regular lamps.
